EMBL/V/96/55 September 1996 VACANCY NOTICE Member States of EMBL (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) are advised that applications are being sought for the following position at the Laboratory's Outstation in Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK: GROUP LEADERS IN BIOINFORMATICSGrade : 9 Duty Station : Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK Date of Start: 1 March 1997 or as soon as possible thereafter Job Description: The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is an Outstation of The European Molecular Biology Laboratory. The EBI is located in Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK, where it shares the site with the Sanger Centre (Wellcome Trust/MRC) and the Human Genome Resource Centre (MRC). The EBI (which includes the EMBL Data Library) offers a stimulating international environment for research in the area of bioinformatics as related to genome research and structural biology. Existing Group Leaders at the EBI are: Michael Ashburner, Thure Etzold, Christos Ouzounis, Chris Sander and Shoshana Wodak. As Group Leaders, the EBI is now seeking two scientists in the field of bioinformatics. The successful candidates will establish small independent research groups. Applications are encouraged in all fields of bioinformatics. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants are expected to have a PhD (or equivalent degree) and considerable research experience and a publication record in bioinformatics. They will be expected to conduct independent research of a high standard. Contract: An initial contract of 3-5 years will be offered. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
