The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), an international research organisation with its Headquarters Laboratory in Heidelberg (Germany), Outstations situated in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany and Hinxton (UK), and a Research Programme at Monterotondo (Italy) has the following vacancies:

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

- European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), Hinxton, UK -

The research activities of the group focus on the development of knowledge bases for the representation of molecular function and comparative genomics. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute to the design and implementation of computational systems relevant to this area. One possible project is the classification of protein function using literature and other molecular biology databases. Knowledge of UNIX and good programming skills are required. Expertise in database technology is highly desirable. Experience with AI methods is desirable, as is a general interest in molecular biology and biological databases. An initial contract of one year's duration will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on performance and availability of external funding.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Secondment to the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), Hinxton, UK is anticipated. The position will be in the SRS (Sequence Retrieval System) project and the main objective is to help develop a server for the computational analysis of disease genes. Experience with biological databanks and programming skills are essential. Starting date as soon as possible. This is a three-year position.
