The surge has been attributed to Chinas increased imports in the last month and concerns over the flow of oil from Russia and Nigeria. At 18:30 Greek time, light crude in the New York Market had nearly reached the record-price of US$119.38 per barrel. The London Brent for May deliveries traded at US$116.23 per barrel, with its price rising to a record peak of US$116.75 later. At the same time, analysts have reported that information as per which Russia, the biggest OPEC producers is producing less petrol compared to last year and that Nigerias production may fall due to lack of investments have allowed people to justify the high oil prices. Meawnhile, the euro has broken for the first time the US$1.60 barrier.
