  • [01] Greece and EU institutions have agreement on 5.4-bln-euro measures, European official confirms

BRUSSELS (ANA-MPA/ M. Aroni) Greece and the European creditor institutions have reached an agreement regarding the basic package of measures worth 5.4 billion euros, a European official confirmed here on Friday. The two sides had not yet reached a final agreement on the details of an automatic fiscal correction mechanism, the same official said, but this was expected over the weekend.

According to the official, the European institutions were waiting for Greek authorities to provide some clarifications relating to the credibility of the correction mechanism, which is to be passed into law next week.

Regarding the size of the loan tranche that will be disbursed once the agreement is clinched, the same official said that this would be decided at the Eurogroup on May 24. He predicted, however, that it will be in the order of 10 billion euros in order to also cover the state's overdue debts to the private sector.

[02] We are doing our best to protect the country and the refugees' dignity, said Alt. Migration Minister Mouzalas

The settlement of the refugees and migrants in decent living conditions will become possible until mid-June, Alternate Migration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas said on Friday responding to a question by Communist Party (KKE) deputy Christos Katsotis on the conditions of the refugee hosting facilities at Skaramangas.

"We are facing difficult conditions and we do our best to safeguard the country and those unfortunate people's dignity," said Mouzalas.

Katsotis claimed that there are huge shortages in the services at Skaramangas adding that the centre is exposed to bad weather conditions.

He also said that non-governmental organisation members, domestic and foreign ones, are trying to create the feeling to the refugees that they will leave soon.

Mouzalas called Skaramangas a comparatively good facility adding that the problems can't be solved in one day.

On the non-governmental organisations, Mouzalas stressed that they must make use of the 100,000 euros they have received adding that the Greek parliament should check them on how they spend the money.

[03] Russia's Transport Minister Sokolov sees increase of Russian tourists in Greece

The number of Russian tourists that will visit Greece is increasing while the interest of Russian companies to participate in the privatization of TRAINOSE and Rosco, as well as the port of Thessaloniki remains strong, Russia's Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov on Friday said after his meeting with Greek Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas, during the interim session of the Joint Interministerial Committee Russia - Greece.

According to the statistics, Russian tourists' bookings for Greek destinations have increased, Sokolov said. "Despite the reduction in the bilateral trade due to the economic crisis and the sanctions, the volume of the Greece-Russia trade remains stable and in some areas has even increased," he added.

He noted that the Russian Railways have expressed their interest in the privatization of TRAINOSE and Rosco. As regards the Thessaloniki Port Authority, he said that the Russian side is waiting for the situation to clear out adding that the investment can get even more interesting if it can be combined with the participation in the privatization of TRAINOSE and Rosco.
