  • [01] Visitors in museums and archaeological sites up 12.4 pct in January

    Visitors to Greek museums in January 2016 posted a 12.4 percent increase, however, revenues from entrance tickets fell 1.1 pct compared to the same month in 2015, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Friday.

    The number of free admission visitors in January increased by 33.7 percent.

    As regards archaeological sites, in January 2016, an increase of 6.7 percent was recorded in the number of visitors and a 48.6 percent increase in the number of free admission visitors. A decrease of 10.6 percentwas observed in their receipts, in comparison with the corresponding month of 2015.

    [02] 54,703 identified migrants and refugees in Greece on Friday

    54,703 identified refugees and migrants were on the Greek territory on Friday including 118 persons that arrived on the Greek islands in the last 24 hours.

    According to the Refugee Crisis Management Coordination Body's figures, 29,294 of the refugees are in northern Greece, 9,305 of them are in Idomeni camp, 14,437 are hosted in the region of Attica (1,446 hosted at Piraeus port), 8,615 on the Greek islands and 2,357 are hosted in different areas in central and southern Greece.

    [03] Three 800-mln-euro investments to be approved under fast track procedures

    Three strategic investments, worth around 800 million euros, designed to create more than 500 new job positions, are on the road to be included in the fast track procedures of a law 3894/2010.

    According to a report by "Avgi" newspaper, two investments are in the tourist sector (by foreign investors) and one in the photovoltaic sector. The general-secretariat of Strategic and Private Investments is currently examining the three projects and it is expected to give its final approval soon.

    The three projects are:

    - Consortium MIRUM HELLAS: It plans a tourist investment to build a luxury hotel complex under the name of "ELOUNDA HILLS" in Aghios Nikolaos, Elounda, Crete. The project envisages the development of luxury holiday villas, a five-star hotel, a marina, shops, utility infrastructures, spa, restaurants, sport facilities and entertainment parks.

    - "RSR Eagle Resort Evia MEPE": It plans a tourist investment in Karystos, Evia.

    - CONSORTIUM SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS LTD: It plans a 384-million-euro investment to build 9 photovoltaic parks in Central Greece with a total power of 470 MW.
