  • [01] Gov't spokesperson:Our job is to prove that we can make it

This is the last negotiation, the last review and, therefore, it is the most difficult, government spokesperson Sofia Voultepsi said on Sunday, referring to the negotiation underway with the troika of the country's lenders.

Speaking on Skai television, she said that the country seeks a credit line and "our job is to prove that we can make it".

Responding to a question on the political negotiation conducted by the prime minister, she said that details of the negotiation cannot be made public, underlining that the Greek people should rest assured that the best is being done. She also noted that the government wants the negotiation to be completed by the end of the year, underlining that the economic growth will not be put at risk.

On the suggestions for a dialogue between the government and the main opposition party, Voultepsi said that the prime minister has called for "national consensus" and the government vice-president has spoken about an "unbroken national front" as opposed to SYRIZA that sees no potential for a consensus.

[02] Police manhunt underway for Mikrolimano gunman

A police manhunt is underway for the arrest of the man who opened fire at a nightclub in Mikrolimano, Piraeus in the early morning hours on Saturday injuring more than 10 people. Nine of them are still treated for injuries in their arms and legs and other 6 have been released from hospital.

Police have in their possession a picture of the suspect as well as video footage from security cameras.

According to information, the suspect is an Albanian national in his 30s who is regarded as extremely dangerous and has allegedly been involved in other three bloody attacks in the past in which one person was killed.

[03] Traces of faded images on the Amphipolis epistyles

Traces of colouration and faded images on the architrave (epistyle) pieces, unearthed in the area where the mosaic floor was revealed by archaeologists at the Ancient Amphipolis excavation site, will become more visible after undergoing conservation and, therefore, announcements will become more specific, Culture Minister Constantinos Tassoulas on Saturday said during a press conference at the Archaeological Museum of Amphipolis.

The minister briefed reporters on the results of the excavations at Kasta Tomb in Amphipolis, noting that monument reinforcement studies and conservation of the findings will be underway. He also referred to the cooperation with Thessaloniki's Aristotle University (AUTh) that has proceeded with the electrical imaging of the subsurface using the method of the electrical resistivity tomography.

He characterized the burial monument as unique and as regards the skeleton that was unearthed, he said that it will be studied by Greek scientists.

"On August 12, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras spoke about a unique archaeological find added to Greece's magnificent mosaic of cultural achievements. Today, three-and-a-half months later, I had the honor and the pleasure to visit this burial monument that has fascinated the Greek people and has attracted international admiration. I honestly want to say that pictures do not do justice to the monument. It is even greater, even more fascinating and exquisite," he said and congratulated the archaeological team headed by Katerina Peristeri.

He said that he congratulated everyone participating in the excavations, adding that the phase launched in 2012 has been completed and now the next phase is launched in which even more scientists will be involved.

Referring to the development of the greater region, he said that a cooperation with the municipality of Amphipolis has began on an order by the prime minister.
