  • [01] PM Samaras meets with Romanian counterpart

ANA/MPA--Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta expressed their support for a peaceful and viable solution in Ukraine, following the latest developments in the region, in statements after their meeting at Maximos Mansion on Tuesday.

Samaras underlined that the solution found should respect the integrity of the countries, adding that secessionist movements do not help.

"I am categorically opposed to moves that would assist the division in any European country and developing a cold war climate. We seek to defuse tension," Samaras noted.

The Romanian Prime Minister stated that what is happening is faced with international law adding that he clearly supports the EU position to solve these problems and avoid a cold war. He also warned that if this problem is not solved, other countries will have similar problems.

The two leaders discussed all bilateral issues, such as Greek investments in Romania, and stressed the need for the further development of both countries.

Samaras expressed his support to Romania's accession to Schengen Treaty, while Ponta congratulated him on Greece's efforts to deal with the economic crisis.

"Greece and Romania have overcome difficulties and there is prospect for further development in our countries," Ponta said, who also referred extensively to the issues of Moldova and Georgia.

Samaras said that Greece, which has the EU presidency, was seeking a pre-accession agreement and the implementation of the agreement on visas. He also announced that he would visit Moldova on April 8.
