[01] IMF remains committed to helping Greece, Lagarde assures PM Samaras
ANA-MPA -- Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had a 45-minute meeting
with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde,
in Washington, Tuesday afternoon, during which discussion focused on
the condition of Greece's economy following the latest inspection in
Athens by the troika representatives. [00] Samaras told reporters that
his discussion with Lagarde "went well" and focused on the viability
of Greek debt. [00] In a statement issued after the end of meeting,
Lagarde said she had a productive discussion with Samaras on recent
economic developments and challenges facing Greece. [00] "I commended
him on the progress that Greece has made under its economic program
towards fiscal sustainability, restoring competitiveness and financial
stability, and stressed the importance of moving forward on institutional
and structural reforms and implementing a robust 2014 budget to achieve
the program's objectives. I assured him that the IMF remains committed
to helping Greece in this endeavor," the IMF chief added.
