[01] Commission clears Legal & General's acquisition of joint control of
IWP Household Group
The European Commission has granted regulatory clearance to an operation by
which the venture capital business of the Legal & General Group Plc will
acquire joint control in IWP International Plc's household business, all of
which are UK companies.
[02] Commission clears Bertelsmann's buy of Zomba
The European Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of Dutch
companies Zomba Record and Zomba Music by Germany's Bertelsmann Music Group
(BMG) from Summer Shore of the Netherlands. The Commission has asserted
that the transaction will result in relatively small increases of BMG's
market shares which will not significantly alter the competitive structure
of the European music market.
[03] La Commission approuve le rachat de Plus Ultra par Groupama dans
l'assurance en Espagne
La Commission européenne a approuvé la proposition de rachat de la totalité
de la société d'assurance espagnole Plus Ultra, Compañía Anónima de Seguros
y Reaseguros, qui appartient au groupe britannique AVIVA, par Groupama
Seguros y Reaseguros S.A., une compagnie d'assurances espagnole qui
appartient au groupe français Groupama. (Le rachat, qui a été notifié à la
Commission sous le Règlement Concentrations le 29 juillet, a été examiné
sous la procédure simplifiée).
[04] Commission clears acquisition of Montrada by Dresdner
The European Commission has granted clearance under the Merger Regulation
to the acquisition of joint control of the German undertaking Montrada GmbH,
active in the network services for electronics card-based payments, by the
German bank Dresdner Bank AG, which belongs to Allianz AG and Commerzbank
AG. (The operation, notified on 30 July 2002, was examined under the
simplified merger review procedure)
[05] Commission clears acquisition of Filo by ING and Sonae
The European Commission has granted clearance under the Merger Regulation
to the acquisition of joint control of the Spanish commercial real estate
firm Filo by Dutch financial services group ING Groep N.V. and Sonae
Imobiliária SGPS of Portugal. (The operation, notified on 31 July 2002, was
examined under the simplified merger review procedure)
[06] July 2002 - Industrial producer prices stable in euro-zone and EU15
The euro-zone and EU15 industrial producer price index remained unchanged
in July 2002 compared with the previous month, Eurostat estimates today. In
June 2002 prices decreased by 0.1% in the euro-zone and by 0.2% in the
EU15. In July 2002 compared to July 2001 industrial producer prices fell by
0.6% in both zones.
[07] Commission to study Ukrainian request for market economy status
The President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, yesterday met the
President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma, in the margins of the Summit in
Johannesburg. They discussed the political and economic situation in the
Ukraine as well as the wider international situation. President Kuchma
asked that his country be granted market economy status as soon as
possible. President Prodi promised that the Commission will study the issue
urgently and report on its findings in six months.
[08] EU reaffirms commitment to reaching global deal at World Summit
The European Union yesterday welcomed the progress achieved at the World
Sustainable Development Summit in Johannesburg towards a global deal
between North and South to eradicate poverty and protect the environment,
and reaffirmed its commitment to reach an overall agreement.
