    Egypt assures of its constant support towards Cyprus

    Nicosia, Oct 20 (CNA) -- Egyptian officials have assured Cyprus' Foreign Minister George Iacovou of their country's constant support towards Cyprus.

    Iacovou had meetings yesterday in Cairo with Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmet Abul Gheit, at the invitation of whom he is visiting Egypt.

    Iacovou and Gheit signed an Agreement between Cyprus and Egypt for the abolishment of visas for the holders of diplomatic, official and special passports.

    Brussels, Oct 20 (CNA) -- Cyprus meets two of the five criteria of accession to the EU economic and monetary union, according to the European Commissions staff working Paper-Convergence Report 2004: Technical annex which will be made public today.

    According to CNA information, the report notes that Cyprus, which joined the EU in May 2004, satisfies the criteria of inflation and long-term interest rates.
