[01] Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea on a short visit to Israel
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea was visiting yesterday the aircraft
carrier George Washington and its warships participating in manoeuvres in
the eastern Mediterranean. The visit is part of the special partnership
between Romania and the US. Mr. Ciorbea was later offered the opportunity
to meet his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu during a short visit to
Jerusalem while on his way to Heraklion, Crete, where he is to participate
in the summit of South East-European countries. The talks focused on
bilateral relations between the two countries as well as latest
developments in the Middle East. Mr. Ciorbea's agenda also included talks
with former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Perez and a visit to old
Jerusalem where he paid his respects at the Holy Tomb Church. RRI-RADOR,

The Israeli-Romanian economic relations are considered to be very. There
are aproximatively 10.000 Israeli investors in Romania and many Israeli
tourists are visiting Romania every year. The Israeli company ELBIT is
contributing to the modernizing of the MIG planes within the Romanian air
force in order to join NATO. One of the important issues that need a
stronger cooperation between the two governments is the right abuse against
Romanians working in Israel. Romania is demanding the Israeli government to
protect the rights of those workers. As far as Israel is concerned, it is
not satisfied with the problem of the nationalised estates belonging to
Romanian-born Israelis. Romanian-born Israeli deputy Abraham Poraz has
asked the Israeli prime minister on Sunday to discuss this matter with his
Romanian counterpart. RADOR, November 3
[02] Romanian-Ukrainian talks
Consultations between Romanian and Ukrainian foreign ministers are due to
take place today in Kiev. The two sides will apprach aspects related to
bilateral ties and necessary measures to enforce the basic political
treaty. The agenda of the talks also includes issues concerning the
cooperation between Romania, Ukraine and Poland. The Romanian-Ukrainian
Treaty became operational on October 23, after Romanian Foreign Minister
Adrian Severin and his Ukrainian counterpart Henadi Udovenko have exchanged
the ratification intruments in Kiev. RRI-RADOR, November 3
[03] National currency continues to fall
The value of the national currency - leu - has decreased compared to the
value of the US dollar. In an interview to the BBC, Ionut Popescu, chief
editor of "Capital" magazine, said: "For the next period of time, the
national currency will devaluate gradually. The National Bank of Romania
(BNR) is expected to announce next month the convertibility of the leu and
then any citizen will be able to buy as many dollars as he wants. Usually,
in December everyone wants to buy something, so importers are trying to
bring more goods on the market and, as a consequence, in November will be
registered a growing devaluation. But there are no reasons to be worried,
especially as statistics show that the trade deficit balance will be lower
than last year". RADOR
[04] Scientific session on Jewish issues
A scientific session devoted to the 20-th anniversary of the Centre of
Jewish History Studies in Romania opened in Bucharest yesterday. Main

marginalisation - responsability". Leading Jewish and non-Jewish historians
fron Romania, Israel, France, Germany and the US participated in the event.
