[05] 1998 budget to provide new jobs
In an interview with ROMANIAN TELEVISION, Finance Minister Mircea Ciumara
said that "the ordinary citizen will feel a relief because we will allot
more money for new jobs and investments, because the fiscal presure, the
taxes paid by the citizen will be lower through the new law of total income
and thus we can better focus on social protection for the people who really
need it. I consider that the most important criteria for the next year are
the relaunching of economic growth and the creation of new jobs. Next week
we shall start talks with the unions and employers in this respect, and
after that with the parliamentary groups". Referring to the IMF
representative Poul Thomsen's visit to Romania, Mr. Ciumara has mentioned
that "it is a regular one, suitable in this time of budget accomplishment,
and it will allow him to make sure that we shall also manage to meet the
main criteria for the next year. At the same time, we would like him to
tell us the extent to which the IMF is willing to finance Romania in the
next three years. RADOR
