  • [01] PARLIAMENTARY SPEAKER THANKS ELECTORATE

TIRANA, JULY 6 (ATA) - By M. Malja: Albanian parliamentary Speaker Pjeter Arbnori held a meeting on Friday with the inhabitants of Lac and Vau i Dejes (Central and Northern Albania) in the framework of the meetings of the Democratic party (DP) deputies with the electorate to thank them for the trust they have in the DP and its program.

Speaking of the political climate after the elections, Arbnori focused on the visit of the DP delegation in Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

He said, "We went there and found a prepared scenario of the left- wing forces which tried to undermine the Albanian democracy and to repeat the free democratic elections in Albania. They have also prepared a resolution which was an insult to Albania and we turned it down immediately."

It is not the time to tread under foot the small people and states because our foreign policy has been opened and we have many friends all over Europe, he added.

Delegations from Germany, France, Italy backed our view there. We managed to reject the point 6 of this resolution which said that the parliament should work out laws according to OSCE and Council of Europe, Arbnori said.

Then, he spoke of the tolerance the DP should show for the members of the opposition sympathizers.

Arbnori briefed them about the meetings of elected prime minister Aleksander Meksi and deputy prime minister Tritan Shehu with political parties for the formation of the new government.

"We are open to coalitions with right-wing parties because we share many points," he said. ake/jz/ak/Z/

TIRANA, JULY 6 (ATA) - By R. Floqi: Balli Kombetar party (National Front) called on its historical leader Abaz Ermenji on Friday to return to Albania and be involved in the political life.

"He is the leader of Balli Kombetar and member of the Albanian parliament. His return depends on his will," said the party deputy leader Hysen Selfo to journalists.

Ermenji has offered his resignation after the first round of elections. But he was elected parliamentary deputy on the proportional list.

"He offered his resignation within his party and this is an inner party problem," Selfo said.

He added: "We should do our best that Ermenji be involved again in the Albanian political life." jz/ak/Z/

[05] ANY INSISTENCIES TO SOLVE KOSOVA PROBLEM UNDER SERBIA'S FRAMEWORK LEADS TO WAR - paper

PRISTINA, JULY 5 (ATA) - The Italian mass media gave a coverage of the statements of Adem Demaci, head of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights in Kosova, at a Milano press conference, the Centre for Information in Kosova said.

In its edition of July 3, the newspaper L'Avenire carried a commentary entitled "Kosova on the eve of explosion" considering as a necessity the adoption of preventive measures by the international community. If the world and Italy will not intervene with preventive measures to meet the right demands of the Albanians a war with consequences for all the region and behind is likely to explode, the paper warned underlining the fact that the Albanians should neither accept the status of the colonised nor that Kosova be a colony of Serbia.

Considering all these, L'Avenire concluded that any insistencies of the international community to solve the Kosova problem under the framework of Serbia would be a way leading to war.

Such articles and commentaries were carried by other newspapers, the Centre for Information of Kosova said citing ANSA, Italian agency, which broadcasted extracts of Demaci's statements.

During his stay in Milano, Demaci also met the deputy director of CARITAS who expressed his readiness to increase aid to Kosova. A representative of the Rectorate of Padova University responding to a letter of the Rector of the Pristina University Ejup Statovci expressed his wish to Demaci to establish cooperation with this important institution in Kosova and the readiness to help it with staff and necessary materials. Professor Antonio Nordi expressed his will to organise the week of Kosovan film in Padova and commitment to cooperate in the field of music especially with Kosovan youth.

A meeting with members of the Albanian community was organised in the premises of Dardania association where the guests were acquainted with the situation in Kosova, and their possible aid to help Kosova face the bad situation prevailing there as well as their commitment as Kosova ambassadors in this friendly country. pta/l/ak/Z/

[07] SOCIALIST PARTY AFTER NANO'S MOTION - Press

TIRANA, JULY 6 (ATA) - Rilindja Demokratike (RD) under the title "Competition for an alibi about the loss" writes that the Socialist leader Fatos Nano in his interview with radio The Voice of America has accepted that his motion asks for great changes in the SP presidency and its leading staff.

This paper in its editorial notices that in Nano's opinions expressed during his interview Friday he divides the party's activists into "pebbles" and "gold".

Regarding the SP situation after the motion "Nano", the RD writes the article "The SP cannot be reformed like that." In another article the paper asks if what is happening in the SP is a reformation or just clans' fight.

It also writes that in Durres and Elbasan (Central Albania) a new Socialist Party is created with Nano's orders and its members should declare themselves "intellectuals left into oblivion."

Zeri i Popullit publishes Nano's complete interview in The Voice of America and says in its editorial that "the SP reformation is in the service of country's political success."

It also carries the full text of the motion where he proposes a debate in the SP General Steering Committee about the theses of the second congress.

Poli i Qendres and Koha Jone carries the full text of the motion. The paper Poli i Qendres publishes extracts of Nano's interview with the Voice of America. Under the titled "Nano: I want to carry out my task" the daily Koha Jone says that this motion is not a personal challenge of Nano. "It only aims at making necessary changes in the SP," the paper reports. In another article the same daily under the headline "Harsh-word letter to imprisoned leader" says that it is the SP board which through a harsh-word and threatening letter urges Nano to withdraw urgently the motion. Another article asked if this motion arrived in time.

Bashkimi in its editorial says that the founding of a new Socialist party is expected.

Dita Informacion carries Nano's motion. An article says that Nano has sent another letter to the party board in order to clarify his ideas. The radical initiative Nano undertook through this motion foresees heated debates in the party, the paper says in the article entitled "What does Nano ask for by this motion."

Albania carries the editorial "Nano's case destroys the party".

"It is a clash of clans", the paper cites Republican leader Sabri Godo as saying about the situation in the SP. Another article says that the removal of Marx from the SP program after Nano's motion was considered a delayed action by the DP chairman. The paper carries the article "Nano's fraction involved in illegal campaign."

The motion of the Socialist leader said, among others, that the SP needs fast qualitative and multilateral changes after what Nano called an electoral farce of May 26. The debate and concrete steps will prepare the conditions for the SP's success, Nano said. In one of five theses put forward the Socialist leader proposes that the party executive board should consider the cases when it has artificially blocked Nano's messages for his party. It also proposed the removal of every reference to Marxism in the SP political program. jz/fh/ak/
