'A great number of issues were included on the agenda and I believe that we solved them quite successfully', stated the president Krajisnik after the session, hoping for a meeting of the Contact Group to be successful. While refusing to comment on the talks, the ambassador Gerasimov stated that 'this is one of the usual and regular meetings with the RS leadership'. Prior to his meeting, the president Krajisnik and RS prime minister Gojko Klickovic talked with the special envoy of the UN secretary-general, Kay Eideu about reorganising of the Serb police forces. The president Krajisnik also met with the head of the OSCE Commission of Experts for Media, Riechard Elerckman, informing him about the complaints of certain state and private media from the western part of RS, because of an inappropriate and discriminatory attitude taken towards media not fitting in Biljana Plavsic's policy'.

BANJALUKA - The RS president Biljana Plavsic is going to meet with the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in Belgrade tomorrow, this was confirmed from the RS presidential cabinet in Banjaluka. Upon the president Milosevic's invitation, Mrs Plavsic will depart for Belgrade and meet with Milosevic for the first time since she was elected the RS president.

DOBOJ - The Police Station in Doboj issued a communique characterising the incident between SFOR personnel and dwellers of the village of Plocnik (6km along the Doboj-Derventa road) as 'the people's reaction on establishing of the SFOR check points'. While reminding us that the incident occurred in Plocnik after SFOR set up its check point in the settlement of Rudanka, thus preventing a normal movement of vehicles and people, the announcement stresses that the infuriated local residents opposed this by blocking the road. As the Serbian Press Agency - SRNA learns from the Doboj Police Station, a meeting between officials of the Doboj Police Station and the SFOR Nordic-Poland Brigade Headquarters took place this evening for overcoming of the emerged problems. The details of the talks are unknown.

DOBOJ - SFOR Ukrainian Battalion personnel set up a check point along M-17 road in the area of Modrica, on the bridge stretching over Bosna River, thus allowing neither the crossing of official police vehicles nor police patrols exercising their regular duties. The communique issued by the Doboj Police Station says that 'the check point was set up in such a way that there are two all-terrain vehicles, three combat armoured vehicles and some 20 soldiers, who are periodically checking vehicles and persons, on the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the bridge'.

DOBOJ - The SFOR Nordic-Poland Brigade Headquarters confirmed for the Serbian Press Agency - SRNA that there were no injured in the incident which occurred in the settlement of Rudanka, near Doboj, when SFOR Danish Brigade personnel conflicted with local populace.

BANJALUKA - The leadership of the RS president Biljana Plavsic's police forces appointed Dusko Jankovic as a new chief of the Police Station in Prijedor and Mile Medjeda as a chief of the Department for State Security in the city. Ranko Mijic and Grozden Mutic are illegally released from their duties as the chiefs of the Police Station and the Department for State Security, respectively.

SARAJEVO - The RS vice-premier Velibor Ostojic confirmed that the para- police forces of the RS president Biljana Plavsic had illegally undertook the authority in Prnjavor and Prijedor, the towns in which the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) won the majority of votes at the recently held elections. While being guest with the Serbian TV, Ostojic pointed out that if the will of the people is to be respected, then the situation in the above towns must be the same as before and added that, in accordance with the RS Constitution and Laws, the legal bodies brought charges and issued warrants against those who initiated these events.

BRCKO - The head of the Main Office of the Serbian Democratic Party of Serbian Lands, Vlado Vrkes, stated in Brcko that 'the forcible capturing of authority at the Police Station in Prnjavor is a part of the scenario for destroying of RS and creating of a special region to be integrated into B&H some time later'. 'Such a policy of the president Plavsic and political parties', who are only interested in the territory stretching from Prijedor to Modrica, unfortunately, is supported by a part of the international organisations, but first of all by SFOR, which exceeded their mandate and the Dayton Agreement', stated Vrkes for SRNA after a session of the Brcko branch [Municipal Board] of the SDS.

PRNJAVOR - Out of desire and endeavours for preventing a chaos and Serbian blood to be shed in Prnjavor, the SDS decided to return the legitimate leadership of the Police Station by a democratic and diplomatic way, announced the Prnjavor branch of the SDS. While resolutely condemning a forcible and illegal replacement of officials of the Prnjavor Police Station, the Prnjavor branch of the SDS stressed that 'the SDS had won the elections in Prnjavor and this gives it the mandate to respect the people's will confirmed even at today's mass gathering and demonstrations in front of the Police Station.

BRCKO - The Brcko branch of the SDS sent a letter of support to the citizens and municipal leadership in Prnjavor to persist in their efforts for preserving of the legal institutions and unity of RS. While summing the results of the local elections, the president of the Brcko branch of the SDS, Mladen Bosic, expressed his pleasure with the Serbian people who once again recognised this Party as a guarantor for its security and survival.

SARAJEVO - The co-chairman of the Council of Ministers, Boro Bosic, stated that the Finnish Government is interested in approving of the without- return help amounting 32 million Finnish markka (or some DM 9 million) for the reconstruction of water supply management in the RS municipality of Ilidza and in the FB&H part of Sarajevo. Bosic stressed after the meeting with the Finnish ambassador, Tim Capone, and his associates, that the visit was linked with the Finnish Government's help programme for B&H, and within the same to RS as well.

MOSCOW - The Russian foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov warned that the realisation of the Dayton Agreement cannot be provided at the price of dividing of RS', pointing out that Moscow and Washington are still working on coming to an agreement on an extraordinary elections. Following his meeting with the USA president Bill Clinton and the Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Primakov stated that Moscow and Washington's attitudes on the realisation of the Dayton Agreement do not differ, but that the problems in regard to the elections in RS 'are in a phase of seeking for a common language'.

CHICAGO - The former US envoy to B&H, Richard Holbrooke, stated in an interview for the 'Chicago Tribune' that the international forces under the NATO command, including the US soldiers, must stay in RS and the Federation of B&H even after their mandate expires in June, 1998. While warning that a withdrawal would be an irresponsible move - 'just as if you would withdraw the team that is winning just before the very end of the match', Holbrooke assessed that when the SFOR mandate expires, Europeans would not, for sure, succeed in stabilising peace in RS and the FB&H without Americans.

VUKOVAR - The president of the Joint Council of Municipalities of the Sremsko-baranjska district, Milos Vojnovic, talked in Vukovar with the British ambassador to Croatia, Colin Endrews, about the current situation in the region, the problems of return of displaced persons and the establishment of a legal system. Vojnovic acquainted the British ambassador with the present problems in education and with demonstrations of students expressing their dissatisfaction with the impossibility for realising of the rights to educational autonomy by coming out on streets.

MOSTAR - Everything that happens in the western part of Mostar is in the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the judiciary of Herceg- Bosnia, while the events in the eastern part of Mostar are in the competence of the Federation of B&H, says categorically the minister of internal affairs of the Hercegovacko-neretvanski canton, Valentin Coric. As the Croatian Radio-Herceg-Bosnia reports, while denying the assertions that the investigation into a car-bomb in the western part of Mostar is being conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Croatia, Coric stated that 'the federal police can participate in the investigation, but only as observers, as well as IPTF'.

While citing Croatian press, AFP asserts that as of August 6, when the ship started cruising the Adriatic SFOR was rejecting to approve such unloading of a ship, offering an explanation that this is not in the scope of the US 'Equip and Train' programme planned for the FB&H Army. But, it is not specified why now SFOR violated this attitude in principle.
