[01] The National Council for Research of Archives of former Communist Political Secret Police, Securitate, released list of candidates of various political parties for general elections that had links with SecuritateThe list was released of former Securitate collaborators and informers. The Chairman of the Council, Gheorghe Onisoru, said that various categories were indentified and namely persons that unfolded various activities of political police, persons that collaborated with former Securitate but whose activity cannot be ascertained, persons that signed a contract and an engagement with Securitate and then did not deliver, hence are not worth mentioning in any circumstance and persons that directly worked with and for Securitate. The list includes 38 names of whom 14 are from CDR 2000, 9 from PDSR, 5 from UDMR, 3 from PNL, two each from the Democratic Party, Alliance for Romania and Greater Romania Party and one from the National Alliance PUNR - PNR. Leaders of several political parties are contesting the list released.[02] Communique of PRMIn a communique received from GREATER ROMANIA PARTY - PRM - the leader of that party, Corneliu Vadim Tudor, estimates that National Liberal Party leader Mircea Ionescu Quintus was not a Securitate collaborator since he was a victim of Securitate prisons. According to Corneliu Vadim Tudor PNL Quintus was tortured by Securitate employees in the Ploiesti prison and then forced to write down whatever the Stalinist type police wished to read.The written pieces of paper were obtained under torture and continual violence and hence are null and void all the more so as Mr. Quintus does not acklowledge to have written any such documents. In these conditions PRM urges the National Council for Research of former Securitate to abstain from turning itself into the new political police of Romania. [03] DAEWOO MANGALIA BUILDS DOCK FOR UNITED STATES NAVYAccording to the manager of DAEWOO Mangalia Heavy Industries that industrial branch will build a floating dock for the United States Navy under contract with Metro Machine Corporation, a contract which is worth 20 million USD. The floating dock is 230 meters long, 5o meters wide and 14 meters deep and its building will be ready in April of 2002.[04] The third international conference for protection of the environment in the Balkan countriesIn the presence of the President of Romania Emil Constantinescu the Patriarchal Palace of Bucharest hosted the opening of the international conference of the Balkan Association for the Protection of the Environment. In his speech the President of Romania has stood for the realistic tackling of environmental problems in order to solve them and thus save the future generations of the burden of unsolved issues and problems. The President has stood for the necessity of joint, international action against the destruction of the environment and for the principle according to which the company, companies or person/s that have committed pollution of the environment have to pay for their action. The theme of the conference is TRANSFRONTIER POLLUTION. Participating have been the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Teoctist, the President of the Balkan Environmental Association, Fokion Kosmiakos, plus many Romanian officials.[05] CALENDARThe President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, alongside Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu and Cabinet Minister of National Education, Andrei Marga, receives 25 Romanian school students that did extremely well as international scientific olympiads.Senator Oliviu Gherman, Chairman of the Senate Privatization Committee has a press conference following his participation in the fall session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly that came to an end on 21 November. Minister of Justice Valeriu Stoica presents at the Ministry of Justice the chapters linked to the activity of the legal system in this country as part of the REPORT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION FOR 2000 REFERRING TO THE STAGE OF PREPARATIONS OF ROMANIA FOR ADHERENCE TO THE EUROPEAN UNION. Also presented is the problem of visas for the Romanian citizens that travel to the European Union countries. At the invitation of the Head of the General Chiefs of Staff of the Romanian Army, army general Mihail Popescu, a delegation of NATO led by the president of the NATO military committee, admiral Guido Venturoni. In Bucharest the debates continue of the third international conference of the Balkan Association for the Environment on the theme TRANSFRONTIER POLLUTION. Today prime of place is held by the debates of the B Section with the round table SAFE MANAGEMENT OF MINING WASTE. The Gaudeamus Book Fair hosts launching of new books as follows: CASA RADIO Publishing House launches the volumes ROMANIAN RADIO BIBLIOGRAPHY, volume two focused on the interval 1936 - 1942, then the volume VERSANT LYRIQUE - an anthology of poetry of Basarabia by George Astalos, as well as the CD of composer Theodor Grigoriu. The CORYNTH PUBLISHING HOUSE launches the volume ABSOLUTE MONARCHIES FROM THE FIFTH CENTURY TO OUR DAYS by Roland Mousnier, at the stand of the Publishing House. The KRITERION Publishing House releases the Romanian translation of the KORAN with the translater as key note speaker. The translator is university conference professor George Grigore. The POLIROM PUBLISHING HOUSE launches the volume TRAVELS TOWARDS MYSELF by Ileana Malancioiu. The novel SENINU'S WITNESSES by Sebastian Sarca released by the Hyperion Publishing House is presented to the public also today. The RAO Publishing House releases the volume HISTORY OF COUPS IN ROMANIA by Alex Mihai Stoenescu. GAUDEAMUS is the book fair of the ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION organized at ROMPEXPO in collaboration with ROMEXPO and with the ALL GROUP OF PUBLISHING HOUSES.
