  • [01] The Prime Minister of Romania makes statement

    The Cabinet of Romania will promote the law of Romanian employers during Wednesday's session by an emergency ordinance said Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu during the seminar WOMEN MANAGERS - A GENUINE MOTIVE POWER OF THE ROMANIAN ECONOMY.

    According to RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI the Prime Minister of Romania said pensioning women at the age of 50 in this country would worsen the situation of the pension funds as the number of tax payers decreased dramatically. He then motivated the necessity of gradually diminishing contribution to state social insurance to do away with unlawful labor.

    [02] The Banesti - Comarnic sector of National Highway No. 1 was inaugurated

    The Romanian Minister of Transportation Anca Boagiu said that this modernized highway will greatly contribute to the improvement of mountain tourism by the increase of the volume of road traffic. RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI reports that the sector cost 150 thousand million lei and that 50 per cent of the investment was covered by the World Bank and the other half by the State Budget.

    [03] Kidney transplants at Iasi

    At the Center of Cardio-Vascular Surgery of the town of Iasi a team of surgeons of the town of Iasi alongside another team of the city of Bucharest performed successfully kidney transplants: the donors are family members, and the recipients are young people aged between 20 and 30 years of age. The doctors told one of the reporters of RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI that they have the proper equipment and what they need now is enough money from the proper authorities to perform heart and liver transplants as well.

    [04] The Roman Catholic Bishopric of the town of Timisoara was awarded distinctions by the Government of Hungary

    On the occasion of 1000 years since the setting up of the Magyar State, the Cabinet of Hungary awarded the MILLENNIUM FLAG to a number of Romanian institutions amon which also the Roman - Catholic Bishopric of Timisoara which is the successor of the one at Cenad.

    The awarding was performed by Hungarian Minister of Justice Ibolya David and the Bishop that received the MILLENNIUM award is Monsignor Martin Ross.

    [05] Rezolution adopted in conclusion of the Congress of Romanian Spirituality

    The participants in the Congress of Romanian spirituality, now at its fourth edition which came to an end at Baile Herculane, having as attendees Romanians living in close to 100 communities all around the world, adopted a rezolution in which they are asking authorities to assist them in attaining the goals of the Congress. Among them there is the recognition of the Congress as the non-government chapter accepted by Romanians everywhere as the carrier of a Romanian national policy, a favorable climate to Romanians living anywhere in the world, for Romania to become a member of the European Union. The rezolution stands for the setting up of its own means of national propaganda by radio, television and written press. Likewise it is proposed that the FESTIVAL OF LONGING FOR THE COUNTRY be set up opened to Romanians all over the world. The institutionalization of the PALADE AWARDS is also suggested to reward scientific, cultural and artistic performances. Priority support is proposed for the Romanians living in the area of Timoc - Yugoslavia - in northern Bucovina which is situated in the south western part of the Ukraine and in Southern Basarabia, which belongs to the Ukraine as well.

    Plenum debates of the Chamber of Deputies of Romanian Parliament.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu meets with the representatives of the Ministry of Finance, of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, of the National Institute of Statistics and with the president of the National Pension House to find out exactly the number of families that benefit of the pay of the outstanding debts they have for water, heat and maintainence of their flats. Also under debate is the way their debts are paid from State funds.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu meets with the representatives of the main parliamentary parties to assess the situation of the electors' cards with the Home Minister in attendance who supplies last minute details.

    Marseilles in France hosts the meeting of the Ministerial Council of the European Union with the foreign and defense ministers of the associated countries invited to attend. Romania is represented by Mircea Plingu and Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, secretaries of state with the Defense and Foreign Ministries of this country.

    Director General of the Customs General Department is visiting the Republic of Moldova.

    Interactive seminar for management and marketing TOPSIM - ECONOMIC SITUATIONS FOR ENTREPRENEURS organized by the National Council of Small and Medium sized companies together with the Munich Applied Sciences University and the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

    Launching of the volume POLITICAL DIALOGS under the signature of Marius Tuca at the Machiavelli Editing House. The ceremony takes place at the Hilton Hotel of the city of Bucharest in the afternoon.

    Pianist Corina Alexandra Raducanu participates in the international contest HAMAMATSU in Japan which unfolds in the interval 13 - 26 November.
