STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Visit of Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides

President Clinton has invited Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides to Washington for a working visit on June 18. President Clerides has accepted the invitation. This visit provides an opportunity for the two leaders to affirm the excellent relations that exist between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus. They will review the situation on the island and discuss how the United States can promote prospects for a lasting and peaceful settlement. They will also exchange views on the overall situation in the eastern Mediterranean and discuss other political and economic issues.
