The network is a collaboration of molecular biologists, cell biologists, biochemists, structural biologists, human genome research scientists and a biotechnology company. The aim is to enhance present knowledge on the role played by kinesin-like motor proteins (KLPs) in cell division and axonal transport in neurons endeavouring to determine the role that these KLPs may play in cancer tumor formation and in neurodegenerative disease, namely motor neuron disease. Furthermore it aims to develop KLPs as targets of inhibitory compounds that may be useful candidates for functional assays and drug development.
