One (1) post-doctoral and two (2) pre-doctoral positions are available for employment at the Institute of Chemical Engineering and High Temperature Chemical Processes (ICE/HT-FORTH, web site: http://www.iceht.forth.gr/), in a research project funded by the European Commission, under the Thematic Programme "Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development" of the 5th Framework Programme (1998-2002). The project is carried out in collaboration with research organizations and enterprises of the European Union, and aims at the development of improved methods for the risk assessment of the liquid contaminant spreading in fractured underground aquifers.

Research Areas
(1) Characterization of the morphology of fractures by processing images of serial cross sections.
(2) Determination of the rheological behavior of liquid pollutants
(3) Experimental study and theoretical simulation of the one-phase and two-phase flow of non-Newtonian fluids in fractured porous media
(4) Experimental study and theoretical simulation of the hydrodynamic dispersion of liquid pollutants in the aqueous phase flowing in fractured porous media
(5) Development of new phenomenological models about the transport coefficients of fractured porous media for the one-phase flow, two-phase immiscible flow and hydrodynamic dispersion

Candidates for the pre-doctoral positions may be given the opportunity to work towards a Ph.D. degree in areas related with the subject of their employment.

Interested individuals should submit their complete curriculum vitae, a brief description of their research experience and copies of their university degrees to
