VACANCY FOR A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN THE AREA OF

DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS AND MULTIMEDIA

The Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus has a new position for Research Associates within the research project "Cultural Journeys in the Information Society (CJIS)" funded by the European Union (INCO-DC framework). The position is initially for one (1) year renewable up to three (3) years. The annual salary for a Research Associate is at the A8 scale (about CY # 9,000 but the exact amount will depend on qualifications and prior experience). [At present CY #1 = 1.2 sterling and CY #1 = 1.9 US dollars, approximately.]

Project CJIS aims to develop and bring together studies from the areas of high speed computer networks, distributed and multimedia systems and digital libraries to provide a solid foundation for the technological building of electronic roads that can be used for cultural and historical exploration both in space and time.

A suitable candidate is expected to have a PhD (preferably) or a sufficiently specialised MSc in Computer Science or related field from an accredited University with emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Parallel and Distributed Systems, Middleware Platforms (e.g. CORBA), Multimedia Systems. Additional experience in Software Engineering, High Speed Networking, development of Internet based environments or programming in Java will be considered an advantage.
