The Cyprus Children's Fund of America, Inc. has announced that this year approximately 13 $1,000 scholarship awards will be given to qualified applicants from the combined four endowments of the funds.

The major award of the CCF is the Makarios Scholarship/Theodore & Wally Lappas Award, which was created by the late Theodore and Wally Lappas in 1983. The CCF Scholarship Endowment, which was created in 1993, is offering its first scholarship award to qualified applicants residents of the United States, Greece, and Cyprus.

The CCF will be accepting applications for the fall semester, until May 5, 1998. All applicants must be Greek Cypriots born on the island of Cyprus with permanent residence on the island and citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. They must be currently enrolled or due to be enrolled in September 1998 as fulltime students in a United States college or university. Applicants must submit appropriate documentation regarding financial need and all sources of financial aid, as well as demonstrate high scholastic ability.

Applications for the Thomas and Elaine Kyrus Endowment are also available for Greek Cypriot students from the town of Morphou or the area of Morphou who are, or will be, enrolled in a United States college or university. Applications for the Peter G. and Bess Kolantis Decker Award are also available for Greek Cypriot students, citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who are enrolled or will be enrolled in September 1998 and who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. Applications for the CCF Scholarship Endowment are also available to all students of Greek and Cypriot background who are citizens of the United States, Cyprus, or Greece. Eligible students must be currently enrolled or to be enrolled fulltime in accredited institutions.
