Defterios moved back to New York in September 1996 from London, where he had been the anchor of CNN International's World Business Today and World Business This Week and Financial News updates from the CNN Financial News desk in London. Before moving to London in 1994, Defterios served as a New York-based CNN Financial News correspondent, covering events such as the final round of GATT discussions from Geneva in 1993 and the takeover of Paramount Communications. Defterios has also reported on the Gulf War from Kuwait, on German re-unification from Berlin and on the 1992 riots in Los Angeles. Prior to joining CNN, Defterios was a bureau chief and Los Angeles Correspondent for PBS's "The Nightly Business Report," and spent three years working for NBR and Reuters in London. Defterios has reported extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East. Defterios holds bachelor's degrees in journalism and political science from the University of Southern California.
