An Athenian Anthropography
An Anthropological examination of the Greek Urban
Space in the latter part of the 20th century
In this talk the Athenian City and Urban Values will be
approached from a variety of points:
- The Introduction and Incorporation of the Sciences in the
process of modernization, family operations, popular culture
and Architecture.
- The development of Athens from the Ottoman city to the Modern
Greek Capital.
Neni Panourgia received her Ph.D in Anthropology from Indiana
University. She is a visiting fellow at the Hellenic Studies
Program at Princeton and the Foundation for Hellenic
Culture. Dr. Panourgia also taught M. Greek Culture and
Literature at Indiana and at Columbia University. She has
specialized in anthropology of urban settings and national
ideology and she has published widely.
