A Contract with America and Our Greek Heritage

The Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center is asking for your participation by helping us gather Greek immigrant memorabilia - things worth remembering, items reflecting the expression of our shared Greek American heritage in home, school, business, medicine, education, law, military etc. The Museum is on a search to obtain items to add to its growing collection such as furniture, photographs, books, clothing, household goods, awards, and much more.

We all have accumulated items that trigger these precious memories which can be shared and viewed at the Museum.

These objects may be donated or exhibited on a temporary loan basis. We hope that we can use some of them in the Hellenic Museum's current location to expand the visitor's experience of "Remembering Generations: The Greek Immigrants' Journey" exhibition. These objects may also be exhibited in the Museum's future, permanent home in Chicago's Greektown where the nation's largest Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center will be built.

By honoring the past generations and investing in our future generations, we have a contract with America and our Greek heritage - with the immigrants, heroes, and all those to whom we must pass the torch.

*To inquire about donating objects please call 312.655.1234 or fax your information to 312.655.1221. * The Museum is currently located at 801 West Adams Street at Halsted, Chicago, Illinois 60607 on the 4th floor of the Greek Islands Restaurant building. You can learn more about the Museum by visiting our website at http://www.hellenicmuseum.org/

Examples of some of our current needs (vintage 1920's-1930's):

- Dining table and chairs

- China cabinet/break front

- Credenza

- Armoire

- Light fixtures (including hanging chandeliers)

- boubounnieres

- Old photographs of Greek immigrant women working at their jobs

- Old photographs of Greek men working at their jobs

- Old photographs of Greek immigrants (families; adults with their children) just arriving to America or to their city destination.

- In addition, objects from various trades, industries and professions that Greeks pursued and established during the early immigrant years.

The Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center's mission is to be the nation's foremost center of Hellenic history, culture and the arts where the public can explore the legacy of the Greek immigrant experience in America and examine the influences of Hellenic culture and people from antiquity to the present.

The Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and is currently located at 801 West Adams at Halsted Street in Chicago's Greektown. The Museum currently occupies approximately 10,000 square feet of space where it holds numerous cultural programs and presents both rotating and permanent exhibitions.
