CHAIRMAN BENJAMIN GILMAN (R-NY) TO SPEAK AT AHIPAC CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK CITY ON JANUARY 11, 1997

The Chairman of the U.S. House International Relations Committee, Benjamin Gilman (R-NY) has accepted an invitation to speak at the forthcoming American Hellenic Institute Public Affairs Committee (AHIPAC) Legislative Policy Conference in New York City on January 11, 1997 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

AHIPAC will be holding three one-day Legislative Policy Conferences in early 1997 in cooperation with the Order of AHEPA and the Hellenic American Nation Council (HANC) to kick off a concerted effort with the Greek American grassroots community to focus on the newly elected 105th Congress.

In addition to AHEPA and HANC, conference cosponsors include the Cyprus Federation of America, the Pancretan Association of America, the Chian Federation of New York, the Chios Societies of the Americas, Inc. "USA and Canada" and the Panepirotic Federation of America.

"Congressman Gilman will play a major role in the 105th Congress, specifically with the issues of concern to the Greek American community. We are pleased to have his input on the forthcoming congressional session," stated Markos Marinakis, conference chairman.

"The Legislative Conference promises to be an informative and motivating event for the Greek American community. Issues such as the Cyprus problem, the Aegean, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Oppression of the Greek Minority in Albania, and FYROM will be discussed. It will be important to have the input of Chairman Gilman, who will handle these issues as the head of the House International Relations Committee," remarked AHIPAC Chairman Savas Tsivicos.

The Legislative Policy Conference in New York is the first of three scheduled by AHIPAC. The others will be held:

January 25, 1997, Los Angeles, California, Los Angeles Airport Marriott, and
February 8, 1997, Chicago, Illinois, Chicago Airport Marriott

Reservations for the conference and luncheon ($75) may be made by contacting AHIPAC at 202-785-8430 or 800-424-9607.
