    Athens, 20 January 2005 (14:10 UTC+2)

The procedure for the approval of the majority shareholder draft law continues in Parliament with a debate by article. The draft law was passed in principle yesterday with the votes of the Parliament deputies of governing party of New Democracy.

Speaking in Parliament, Minister of State Thodoris Rousopoulos stated that the government expects the applause of the society and not of the main opposition party of PASOK, while he characterized the proposals presented by the leader of the main opposition party as pointless and certain of them unconstitutional requesting his presence in Parliament.

PASOK's Parliament deputy Dimitris Reppas stated that New Democracy is engaged in a witch-hunt.

    Athens, 20 January 2005 (16:38 UTC+2)

Acting government spokesman Evangelos Antonaros issued an appeal to the farmers to adhere to the principle that the protests of the few should not bedevil the many.

On the demands of the farmers and their mobilizations, Mr. Antonaros stated that any comment is premature as dialogue is in progress between representatives of the farmers and the leadership of the Ministry of Agricultural Development.

    [07] UNPRECEDENTED INTERNET-ASSISTED SUICIDE

    Athens, 20 January 2005 (14:55 UTC+2)

Athens police cleared an unprecedented suicide case of a 17-year-old who committed an Internet-assisted suicide. The young man committed suicide by using pesticide following the directions a 24-year-old gave him from the city of Chania in the island of Crete, southern Greece, through the Internet. The 24-year-old was arrested and told police that he thought that the whole talk about committing a suicide was a joke.

According to police, the 17-year-old using a woman's name had contacted a number of individuals through the Internet and asked for information on ways to commit suicide. However, he did not mention that he was the one who wanted to kill himself and maintained that he made the questions within the framework of a research he was doing.

According to information, the 17-year-old committed suicide because he had two unfortunate love affairs within a short period of time and as a result he had collapsed psychologically.
