There are fears that an escalation of the unrest in Kossovo could also involve FYROM, whose population of about two million includes nearly half a million ethnic Albanians. Mr. Annan noted discussions were still under way in NATO and elsewhere on the possible need for an expanded international military presence in the region because of the situation in Kossovo.
