[01] MINISTRY REPLIES TO NEWSPAPER'S TERRORISM ARTICLE

    Web Posted: 19:14 GMT+2
Athens, 14/11/1999 (MPA) Prompted by an article on terrorism published today in the Athens daily To Vima, which asserts that Greek authorities may be closer to a breakthrough in their investigation of the November 17 terrorist group, the Ministry of Public Order issued an announcement citing both its resolve to quash terrorism, as well as the imprudence of early reports in the media.

"The government's will to address and combat the phenomenon of terrorism is a given," the Ministry's announcement reads, adding that "the appropriate authorities are continuing with their investigation in that direction.

"It is obvious that the said matter is not up for pubic discussion, especially when the published reports are not accurate."

Mr. Papandreou also stated that the excellent level of ties he enjoys with the Prime Minster Costas Simitis appear to bother some, both within and from outside the ruling PASOK party. Moreover, he added that the repeated verbal jabs he has received from his predecessor Theodoros Pangalos undermine the ministry itself.
