After the installation will follow test-use of the system in January and February with airplanes in flight, while by the end of March the training of air traffic controllers on the specific system will be completed. The basic loan interest rate of the Alpha Credit Bank is now 15.25% and the housing loan interest rate is set at 9%, while the short-term loan interest rate of the Bank of Pireaus is 14% and the housing loan interest rate is set at 8.75%.Meanwhile, an increase of 2.75% was recorded in the Athens Stock Exchange yesterday and the volume of transactions was 48.2 billion drachmas. Greek Cypriot farmers, with the backing of a police force, attempted today to work in their fields that are being illegally farmed by Turkish Cypriots. The clashes between the farmers were avoided at the last minute with the mediation of British soldiers.The Greek Cypriots will appeal to the European Court for Human Rights to claim their legal rights. It should be noted that the second round of elections will be held in 62 of the country's 85 polling districts. [C] EUROPE[06] A YOUNG GREEK GIRL IS AMONG THE VICTIMS OF THE TRAGIC FIRE IN SWEDENWeb Posted: 15:57 GMT+2Gotenborg, 31/10/1998 (MPA) A Greek 17yearold girl, Paraskevi Boura, is one of the victims of the fire in a disco in the Swedish city of Gotenborg that killed 67 young people and injured 192.Of the 67 bodies only 22 have been identified and according to speculations, among the unidentified victims is a Greek boy. Among the injured are two 16yearold Greeks a boy and a girl and according to information, their condition is not bad. The parents of Paraskevi come from the north-western Greek city of Ioannina and are among the first Greeks who immigrated to Sweden in the 1960's. [07] SAMARANCH SENT A MEMORANDUM TO SIMITISWeb Posted: 15:57 GMT+2Lausanne, 31/10/1998 (MPA) Undersecretary of sports Andreas Fouras, who is expected to return from Lausanne to Athens this evening, will convey a memorandum by International Olympic Committee president Juan Antonio Samaranch to Greek prime minister Kostas Simitis.The memorandum includes speculations and recommendations on the course of the preparations for the 2004 Olympic Games. Mr. Fouras, who was on a visit to the Swiss city, met with Mr. Samaranch and discussed sports issues.
