    The talks on Cyprus that were completed in Montreaux yesterday underlined the intransigent and blackmailing tactic followed by Turkish-Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash and Ankara, stated acting government spokesman Yiannis Nikolaou.

    Mr.Nikolaou characterized mr.Denktash's positions on the Cyprus problem as unacceptable and pointed out that he attempted to meddle in the EU affairs seeking to dictate his position regarding Cyprus' EU accession course.

    Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomeos is on a three-day visit to the Aegean island of Chios on the invitation of the local Mastic Producers Association.

    In a special event scheduled to take place today in the island's cultural center, the Mastic Producers Association will declare the Ecumenical Patriarch as its honorary President.

    During his stay, the Ecumenical Patriarch will tour the mastic producing villages of Chios, while he will also visit Psara and Inouses.

    [03] HALBROOKE WILL VISIT CYPRUS IN AUTUMN

    US Presidential envoy Richard Halbrooke is expected to visit Cyprus in autumn, according to US State Department spokesman mr.James Rubin.

    The US State Department announced that mr.Halbrooke is in contact with many European leaders regarding the Cyprus issue as well as, with British special envoy Sir David Hanney.

    [04] RAUF DENKTASH IS BLAMED FOR THE COLLAPSE OF THE TALKS IN MONTREAUX

    The second round of the direct talks for Cyprus was led to collapse. Special UN envoy mr.Cordovez blamed Turkish-Cypriot leader Pauf Denktash for the failure of the talks in Montreaux, but he pointed out that the effort for the solution of the Cyprus problem will continue.

    Mr.Denktash accused the EU of undermining the negotiations with its decision to open the accession talks with Cyprus next year. Cypriot President Glafkos Clerides warned that the process for Cyprus' EU accession will not be delayed.

    [05] THREE NEW MEMBERS IN THE GOVERNMENT OF PRIME MINISTER NANO

    Three undersecretaries, who come from the Human Rights Union Party, are included among the new undersecretaries announced by the government of Prime Minister Fatos Nano in Albania.

    Vice-President of OMONIA mr.A.Martos, who is a professor of Geology in the University of Tirana will become Undersecretary of Education and the vice- President of the Human Rights Union Party mr.Leka will be Undersecreatry of Labour and Immigration, while mr.Potsis is the new Undersecretary of Tourism.
