[06] THE US STATE DEPARTMENT DESCRIBED AS A POSITIVE STEP THE CLERIDES- DENKTASH AGREEMENTWeb Posted: 15:44 GMT+2Washington 2 August (MPA)The US State Department characterized as positive and significant step the agreement reached by Cypriot President Glafkos Clerides and Turkish-Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash for the solution of the humanitarian issue of those still missing since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.According to a US State Department spokesman, the agreement reached by Clerides and Denktash for the return of the remains of Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots missing since 1974, is a positive step. The spokesman congratulated the UN for its assistance adding that congratulations deserve and the leaders of the two communities for their initiative to proceed with the solution of this humanitarian issue, while he welcomed the intention of both sides to continue their meetings in Cyprus for talks on humanitarian issues. Commenting on Denktash's statements, who is threatening that he will not go to Geneva for the second round of direct talks, the US spokesman expressed the hope that the two sides will accept the UN invitation. [07] THE #5 AND #6 NUCLEAR REACTORS OF KOZLODUI ARE BEING UPDATEDWeb Posted: 15:44 GMT+2Sofia 2 August (MPA)The financing and modernization programme for Kozlodui's nuclear reactors number 5 and number 6 was examined by Bulgarian government vice-President Gevgeni Bakarziev and "Siemens" consortium General Director mr.Sobotka.The "Kozlodui" European consortium, which is directed by "Siemens", will contribute 50% of the 250-300 million ECU that will be absorbed by the programme, 30% will come from France and Germany, while the rest 20% will be contributed by Russian companies. [08] BULGARIA HAS OVERCOME THE DANGER OF ECONOMIC COLLAPSEWeb Posted: 15:44 GMT+2Sofia 2 August (MPA)Bulgaria has overcome the danger of economic collapse, according to a report prepared by a US financial organization. Based on the report, Bulgaria's foreign exchange reserves will reach 1,9 billion dollars by the end of 1997, its GDP will increase to 4%, while inflation in 1998 will drop to 12%.It should be reminded that at the end of January 1997, Bulgaria's Central Bank foreign exchange reserves were 415 million dollars and on May 31 had increased to 1,3 billion dollars.
