    Nicosia 11 January (MPA)

Ankara heightens tensions in spite of the new warning that came from the US calling Turkey to stop the threats against Cyprus.

Turkish Foreign Minister Tansu Ciller and Chief of the Army General Staff Hakki Karadayi will visit the Turkish occupied northern Cyprus next week, while according to the Turkish newspaper "Milliyet", Turkish-Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will visit Ankara next week.

Meanwhile, Democratic Left party leader and architect of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus Bulent Etsevit stated that Turkey must undertake Cyprus' defence pointing out that the Cypriot Republic buys Russian missiles on purpose, stressing that its objective is not to attack but to prepare another "game". According to the Turkish politician, the Greek-Cypriots aim at "cornering" Turkey.

He also maintained that Cyprus, its allies and Russia are promoting a scenario according to which, the Greek-Cypriots will be armed seeking Turkey's reaction so that later will be able to say to Ankara "don't react to Cyprus' accession into the EU and we will persuade them to stop arming".
