[01] ND Trapped
[01] ND Trapped
PASOK party first meeting after European elections on Sunday centered
on the results and the everyday concerns of citizens. The party's
leader George Papandreou described as "bumptious" the ND party stance
against election results, stressing that nothing would change as the
Prime-minister could not proceed to significant reversals as he would
have to reverse his nature.
Mr. Papandreou stressed that the ND is trapped in a particular concept
of ruling and petty partisan deadlocks. He also said that it had
received the message of the election results and was condemned for
mismanagement. He characteristically said: "they are not dealing with
the financial crisis but the crisis within the ND". PASOK president
attributed European elections result to the fact that people found
trustworthy his party's proposal for the country's exit from the
financial crisis and a well-governed state. He also said that PASOK
campaign linking the country's financial situation with illegality and
impunity received a positive response. Mr. Papandreou also said that
PASOK should evaluate the government's policy on economy and draw its
proposals. Referring to European Social-Democrats, Mr. Papandreou
noted institutional and political puzzlement in front of developments,
adding that Socialists victory in Greece and Malta burden the two
parties and particularly PASOK to pass a different climate in Europe.
PASOK spokesman, George Papakonstantinou said that the Prime-minister
did not receive any message and did not realize that Greek people
condemned his policies. Taking into consideration abstention to
evaluate election results could be labeled as oversimplification said
G. Papakonstantinou adding that PASOK also addresses to voters that did
not turn out. Reactions Commenting, the GCP said: PASOK criticism is
superficial. PASOK leadership is only interested in capitalizing on the
government's decay in the façade of progressive force.
