Referring to the global financial crisis, Mr Papoulias said almost every household is suffering in Greece, calling the Church to help everybody's effort to constitute society more just and humane. In parallel, he attributed the financial crisis to human greediness and the countries' weakness to control it. In reply, Archbishop Ieronymos stressed that the Church and the State should cooperate as the world financial crisis is deepening to help Greece and its people.Meanwhile, the Sunday of Orthodoxy was celebrated today with a Mass conducted at the Saint Dionysus Aeropagitis church with Archbishop Ieronymos officiating. Metropolitan of Nikopolis and Preveza Meletios delivered a speech, while attending the Mass was Mr Papoulias, the President of the Hellenic Parliament Dimitris Sioufas and Transport Minister Evripidis Stylianidis. News item: 19826 [02] SYN: Internal Procedures for Euro ElectionsProcedures of the pan Hellenic preliminary elections that will define the order of Synaspimsos candidates in SYRIZA elections, have started today and will be completed on Monday. About 12.000 members are called to choose between 12 candidates. Nikos Hountis, secretary of the Central Political Committee and Dimitris Papadimoulis, euro parliamentary member of Synaspimos are leading.Mr. Houdis stressed that in conditions of generalized crisis where subversion of participation and limitation of Democracy is attempted, the choice of euro candidates by the party's basis constitutes a valuable advice in the political life of the country. On his side Dimitris Papadimoulis stressed that thousand members of Synaspismos are evaluating competitive co candidacies. We are voting, he said massively and consciously and starting from Tuesday we are all going to be together in the mutual fight. Participating in this election are only SYN members. The 500 ballot boxes will close at about 20:00 Monday. As per estimates, about 12,000 members will vote, choosing among 12 candidates. The winners will get the first, third and fifther position, as SYRIZA (Coalition of the Radical Left) "allies" will get the position in between. SYN is optimistic expecting to elect four eurodeputies. News item: 19824 [03] Two U.K. Soldiers Killed in Northern Ireland AttackTwo British soldiers were killed and four people injured in Northern Ireland when gunmen opened fire on an army base, the first U.K. military fatalities in the province since 1997. Police were focusing their investigation on dissident Irish Republicans. At least two men with automatic rifles opened fire on the gates of the Massereene barracks north of Belfast at about 9:20 p.m. yesterday during a pizza delivery, Detective Chief Superintendent Derek Williamson said today in a televised briefing. The victims were men in their early 20s and about to deploy to Afghanistan, he said.A 36-year conflict in Northern Ireland ended in 2005 when the Irish Republican Army, which had been fighting to unite Ireland, declared an end to its campaign. The conflict claimed more than 3,500 lives. Dissident republican paramilitaries, who oppose the peace process, have launched sporadic gun and bomb attacks in the province since 1997 when they split from the IRA. "No murderer will be able to derail a peace process that has the support of the people of Northern Ireland," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said today in televised remarks. British Ministry of Defense confirmed the death of the soldiers. Police forces of N. Ireland made clear that four more people were injured one of whom being hospitalized in critical condition.
