    Gains were recorded in Tokyo Stock Market after Thursdays encouraging earning signals 4.61%, 5.49% and 4.17% in Wall Street, Dow Jones NASDAQ and Standard & Poors respectively, with international agencies speaking of shares rebound. Nikkei index went up 235.3 points (2.78%) to 8.693.82, limited gains, however, after yesterdays -11% plunge, the worst in two decades. On the other hand European major indexes recorded losses over 5% and Athens Stock Market suffered 5.3% losses down to 2.255 points. Interest is focused on European stock markets todays sessions. It is believed that investors are still reserved fearing global recession.

    Light Crude Oil over $72

    Economic analysts in Australia believe that the Reserve Bank of Australia will cut interest rates by 2.25% in the next months after assessing as inefficient measures taken by developed countries to rescue global economy. In the meantime, oil prices dropped below $70 per barrel on Thursday in the mid of fears of global recession. However, the gains in equity markets bolstered oil prices in Asian markets with U.S. crude futures for November delivery rising to $72.87 a barrel.

    [02] OA Airliner en Route to Vietnam

    An Olympic Airways Boeing 737 is en route to Vietnam, carrying the spare parts for the repair of the presidential aircraft, which remains immobilized at Hanoi airport since yesterday due to mechanical failure. The aircraft took off from E. Benizelos Airport at 03:30, on Friday. All 162 passengers aboard were safely disembarked. The activation of the fire detection system in one of the four engines was due to wrong indication of failure.

    Metro employees have announced work stoppages, which start today and end next Saturday, October, 25, demanding the signing of 2008 collective labor contract. Athens Metro services will not run from 12:00 to 16:00 on Friday, October, 17.
