Mr Zapatero also reappointed Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, a mainstay of his previous government, as deputy prime minister and kept in place Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Pedro Solbes and the head of Spanish diplomacy Miguel Angel Moratinos. Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba will be the new Interior Minister despite some reservations, while former housing minister, Carme Chacon, one of the rising stars of Spains Socialist party, becomes its first ever female defence minister. The sworn-in women ministers are eight and the respective men seven.
