    [02] PM chairs Pasok executive bureau meeting

    Pasok's executive bureau is meeting this evening, chaired by Prime Minister Costas Simitis, who is expected to brief senior officials on current political developments, in view of tomorrow's presentation of the government's so-called convergence charter. Earlier, the Prime Minister urged everyone to work together to achieve the national target of convergence with other major European Union economies.

    [03] Public prosecutor sums up at November 17th trial

    Summing up at the ongoing November 17th trial, the public prosecutor said today Alexandros Yotopoulos was the terrorist group's leader. In his 6-hour address to the court, he described its members as pseudo-revolutionaries, killers, robbers and thieves.

    [04] Coalition of the Left leader slams government and ND

    Speaking at the International Trade Fair in Thessaloniki today, the leader of the Coalition of the Left, Nikos Constantopoulos slammed the government and the main opposition New Democracy party. Referring to the political situation, Constantopoulos charged that the government was playing a game of offering welfare hand-outs and concealing the reality of the Greek economy.

    [05] ND leader meets with European Commission President

    During a meeting in Brussels today with European Commission President Romano Prodi, New Democracy leader Costas Karamanlis called for speedier promotion of the joint Foreign Policy and Security, and the safeguarding of medium-sized and small countries' interests. Karamanlis noted that the European Union's draft constitution treaty constitutes a major step forward.

    [06] Petrol station strike averted after compromise reached

    Gasoline station owners and the Development Ministry reached a compromise agreement this evening on the thorny issue of cash registers at service stations, following a lengthy meeting. The agreement averted a threatened strike ' of indefinite length ' which would have begun tomorrow.

    A Palestinian suicide bomber kills at least four people and injures about 30, in an attack outside a major army base near Tel Aviv.

    [08] Iran given deadline to provide nuclear program details

    A draft resolution, submitted to the United Nations nuclear watchdog and backed by Washington, gives Iran a deadline until the end of October to provide full details about the extent of its nuclear program.
