    Unsettled weather is forecast on the mainland, including sunshine, clouds, rain and storms. The rest of the country is likely to remain sunny. Winds northerly, moderate to strong, turning very strong in parts of the Aegean. Temperatures in Athens between 25C and 35C; and in Thessaloniki from 22C to 30C.

    [02] Interior Minister speaks about electoral law

    The Minister of the Interior, Costas Skandalidis made clarifications today concerning the new electoral law and pointed out that the government is open to dialogue on when the law would come into effect. Mr. Skandalidis invited all political parties to such a dialogue in September and added that the government intends to submit the bill to parliament by the end of October.

    [03] ND president rules out electoral law dialogue

    The President of the New Democracy party, Konstantinos Karamanlis from Lefkada today ruled out a pre-election discussion on the electoral law and noted the issue had closed for New Democracy.

    Mr. Karamanlis spoke of a parody, games and disorienting approaches, and stressed that the government's tricks do not concern the citizens who have other problems to deal with, such as corruption, poverty, price increases, education, insecurity and the broadening of social and regional inequalities.

    The President of the New Democracy repeated that the only solution for the country is early elections, since, as he stressed, the country could not take a nine-month extension of the pre-electoral period that has been declared by the government.

    [04] PM to request stock market codes openings Tuesday of Pasok MP's

    Prime Minister Simitis will issue a written request for the opening of the stock market codes of Pasok's MP on Tuesday. The investigation of stock market transactions of Pasok MP's will be for the period 1997-2002 and not 1998-2000 as it had been previously announced.

    [05] PM Simitis and foreign minister Papandreou discuss Cyprus issue tabled

    The Cyprus dispute and Greek-Turkish relations were closely examined today during a meeting between the Prime Minister Costas Simitis and Foreign Minister, Giorgos Papandreou.

    In the meantime, the president of Cyprus, Tasos Papdopoulos sent a response today to United Nations Secretary general Kofi Anan with respect to the latest proposals made by Turkish-Cypriot leader Raouf Denktash, who requested the return of Famagusta in exchange for the reopening of the Nicosia airport.

    [06] Deputy Foreign Minister to visit Balkans on Monday

    On Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister, Andreas Loverdos, begins a three-day official visit to Bosnia-Hersegovina, Albania, Serbia and Montenegro in order to strengthen the countries' bilateral economic ties with Greece and to discuss the implementation of the Greek Plan for the restructuring of the Balkans.

    [07] British government rocked by scientist's death

    A mild-mannered British scientist was found dead in the woods today after being unwittingly dragged into a fierce political dispute about intelligence used to justify war on Iraq. David Kelly, a former U.N. weapons inspector, had been grilled in parliament over allegations the government hyped intelligence to the justify war.

    A CIA analysis has determined that an audiotape aired on Arab television this week was "probably" the voice of Saddam Hussein, a U.S. intelligence official said on today.
