    The National Meteorological Service forecasts for today local thunderstorms and strong southerly winds in the Aegean.

    The temperature in Athens will range from 14-22 C and in Thessaloniki from 10-17 C.

    [02] Erdogan to visit Athens

    The winner of the Turkish elections Recep Tayyip Erdogan&#8217;s

    European tour will begin from Athens following the invitation of Prime Minister Costas Simitis.

    In an exclusive interview with NET 105.8, the Mr Erdogan stated that he supported the solution of the Cyprus issue on the basis of the Belgian model, adding that that proposal had already been submitted to the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. Mr Erdogan also asked for Greece&#8217;s support in Turkey&#8217;s accession process to the European Union in view of the Greek EU Presidency.

    From his side, the head of the negotiating delegation for Cyprus&#8217; accession Giorgos Vasiliou said the if Mr Erdogan meant what he said then a solution of the Cyprus issue would be found soon.

    At the same time, Foreign Minister George Papandreou described Mr Erdogan&#8217;s statement positive, while after his meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Marc Grossman that any proposal for the solution of the Cyprus issue must be based on the Security Council resolutions.

    Besides, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is expected to present his plan on the solution of the Cyprus issue soon.

    On a relative development, Prime Minister Costas Simitis stressed to the PASOK Executive Bureau that the political world should be careful since the Cyprus issue is in a crucial phase.

    Finally, the winner of the Turkish elections has begun deliberations with his party&#8217;s members today so as to present his proposal for the new Prime Minister to the Turkish President Sezer.

    Besides, the Chief of Arms of the Turkish Armed Forces will meet with American Secretary of State Colin Powel, Defence Minister Donald Rumsfeld, as well as with Vice President Dick Cheney at the State Department tomorrow.

    [03] Simitis criticizes his party cadres

    Following the Executive Bureau meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Costas Simitis c criticized his party cadres on the basis of the results of the recent Municipal and Prefectural elections.

    Regarding the creation of a Centre-Left coalition, he said that that was the party&#8217;s goal, but this needed careful handling and coordinated action.

    Referring on the same issue, Secretary Costas Laliotis said that PASOK wishes to cooperate with the left, adding however that it would do so not because of emergency reasons.
