He also asked from Greeks to remain united and elect progressive leaderships in every prefecture and municipality, stressing that those adopting extreme right wing views cannot lead the local society. Moreover, he criticized those who connected PASOK with terrorism.In reply, New Democracy President Costas Karamanlis from Samos accused the government of remaining trapped in a circle of apathy and of only referring to the past. At the same time, in an interview with the newspaper “Kyriakatiki Eleftherotypia” PASOK Secretary Costas Laliotis described Costas Karamanlis as a prisoner of extreme right wing, adding that in his attempt to take over power he chooses extreme right wing and pro-junta candidates in the coming municipal elections. From his side, right-wing main opposition party of New Democracy honorary president Konstantinos Mitsotakis accused the government of inadequacy and inability during his tour of Thrace, northeastern Greece. He stressed that the imminent local administration elections are political and that the message for the governing Socialist Party of PASOK will be overwhelming. Mr. Mitsotakis clarified that there is no extreme right in Greece and stressed that New Democracy is the great party that represents the Center and the Right in the country. Finally, Greek Communist party Secretary General Aleka Papariga described the two parties’ juxtaposition ridiculous.
