At the Eleftherios Venizelos airport yesterday he was received by the head of the Greek Orthodox Church- Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos who hosted a lunch in his honour.Patriarch Vartholomeos will today meet with Prime-minister Simitis , the President of the Republic Kostis Stefanopoulos and later with N.D leader Kostas Karamanlis. Patriarch Vartholomeos will also attend a ceremony at the Athens Agricultural University today where he is to be pronounced honorary professor of the university. Prior to his departure on Wednesday the Patriarch will meet with UNESCO Good Will Ambassador Marianna Vardinoyiannis to discuss initiatives to help street children and children in Africa. (30/9/2002 12:11:00 ��) [06] Clash between government and N.D party over opinion poll resultsThere was a strong clash yesterday between the government and the opposition N.D party, after the release by the N.D party of results of an opinion poll , conducted on its behalf.Government spokesman , Hristos Protopappas, said the poll, surveying voter s preferences for the parliamentary elections , just 15 days prior to local government elections – and carried out by a company linked with that which has undertaken the party s election campaign- was a clear indication that N.D was in a state of total confusion and panic because of its erroneous choice of candidates. In response , ND party spokesman , Theodoros Roussopoulos said the government was upset because the opinion poll- like all the others conducted in the past two years – was not favourable to the ruling Pasok party.
