Additionally, 15,000 pensioners will also receive the family allowance retrospectively as of 1st July 2002. Prime Minister Costas Simitis also contacted Mr Schroeder and expressed his satisfaction over his victory. Finally, Athens Mayor Dimitris Avramopoulos expressed his support to New Democracy candidate for the Municipal elections, stressing however that that move did not constitute a step for his return to the New Democracy party.
