Temperatures in Athens between 17C and 28C; and in Thessaloniki from 14C to 24C.(18/9/2002 11:40:00 ��) [02] Sotiropoulou re-arrestedAuthorities have re-arrested the first woman officially implicated with the "November 17" urban terrorist only hours after an appellate court council intervened in a judicial dispute that initially freed her after two days in custody, thus siding with a prosecutor’s recommendation that she be jailed pending trial.Angeliki Sotiropoulou, 40, was arrested in downtown Athens in the early afternoon on Tuesday at a pre-arranged location following her attorney’s consultation with police, according to reports. The appellate council had earlier ruled that Sotiropoulou should be jailed, countering a decision by the examining magistrate overseeing the unprecedented "N17" investigation, appeals court prosecutor Leonidas Zervobeakos. In the meantime, according to information her companion Dimitris Koufodinas stated Mr Zervobeakos that Angeliki Sotiropoulou was ignorant and had not participated in "N 17". At the same time, Prime Minister Costas Simitis stated that the government continues its efforts to shed more light to the case of terrorism in an objective way. From his side, government spokesman Christos Protopapas said that it is everyone’s obligation to disrupt and debunk terrorism. He also critisized attempts for involving terrorism with politics. On a relative development, in an interview with NET 105.8, the Secretary General of the European Federation of Journalists Renata Schroeder agreed that journalists should be communicating with those accused of terrorism, pointing out at the same time that journalists should not used by terrorists. Finally, the Confederation of the Athens Daily newspapers disagreed with the prosecution of journalists, who interviewed imprisoned terrorists thus allegedly setting pace to them. (18/9/2002 11:41:00 ��) [03] Tshochatzopoulos tries to control price increasesDevelopment Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos will propose 12 measures against profiteering to the Cabinet tomorrow, at a time when the government is trying to control price increases in the market.Mr Tsochatzopoulos announced a series of measures to hold prices of vegetables and fruit down. He also said that the government is determined to enact the use of cash registers at open air markets, stressing that out of the overall volume of traded fruit and vegetables , 30% and 50% are traded illegally in Athens and Thessaloniki respectively. He also spoke of an "abnormality" due to arbitrary and unjustified increases in the prices of fruit and vegetables and private services that have a negative effect on inflation. In the meantime, the President of the Consumers’ Union Michalis Tsifakis stated that more boycotts are to follow, adding that on the basis of price decreases observed, one can infer that consumers can implement their own rules to profiteers. (18/9/2002 11:43:00 ��) [04] The EU to expand with Cyprus firstGovernment spokesman Christos Protopapas has stressed that the European Union expansion will begin from Cyprus, adding that Greece will insist on that.Meanwhile, Athens and Nicosia described Reuters news agency allegations that Cyprus may be excluded from the countries to be acceded next month as groundless. At the same time, Gunder Forhoygen, the Commissioners responsible for the EU expansion stated that the European Committee remains committed to the Helsinki decision, while on the 9 October evaluation report he will adopt a clear stance as to wether Cyprus can conclude its accession to the EU by the end of this year.
