    [02] Revelations about the November 17 organization continue

    Following the discovery of the main hide-out of the November 17 organization in a basement apartment in the Athens district of Patissia,- rented years ago by a suspected member of the group injured in a bomb attack at the port of Pireus,- the Greek anti-terror squad continue collecting information about the terrorist group.

    Chief of the Greek police, Fotis Nasiakos said that the fingerprints found in the car used in the assasination of ship owner, Kostas Peratikos belonged to Savvas Xiros. The police have conducted searches in houses in Sounio and Egina while former and present members of the organization being questioned are giving information about the organization taking advantage of the amnesty article of the anti-terror bill.

    In his statement yesterday, Prime-minister , Kostas Simitis said that the recent developments are the outcome of many years of systematic work, stressing that the main target of the government is to dismantle the network and consolidate a sense of security among the Greek people. After his meeting with visiting Australian Prime-minister, John Howard, Mr.Simitis stated that the November 17 organization by no means threatens the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

    Commenting on the recent revelations about the November 17 organization, the leader of the main opposition N.D party, Kostas Karamanlis stressed the need of responsibility in order to get tangible results.

    American ambassador in Athens, Tomas Miller congratulated the Greek authorities but noted that yet time and strong effort was necessary to collect evidence leading to the heads of the organization.

    Pasok party Organizational Congress opens today with a speech by Prime-minister Simitis who is expected among others to stress that he will lead the party in the parliamentary elections in 2004.

    [04] State Petroleum Company

    The Athens court is expected to decide today whether it is illegal or not the 15 day strike of the State Petroleum Company employees.

    In the meantime , the Union of Gas Station owners called on the government to work out a regulation providing for their direct supply of oil , denouncing extensive oil smuggling .

    Foreign undersecretary, Yiannis Magriotis is flying to Riga, capital of Latvia to represent Prime-minister Simitis at the summit meeting of NATO alliance candidate countries.

    According to data in the Eurostat report, Greece and Germany are the only E.U member countries where inward and outward of extra E.U investments increased in 2001 compared to 2000.
