    [01] Meetings on 2002 State Budget

    The financial team of the government is holding successive meetings, in view of the 2002 state budget that will be tabled in parliament soon. The Finance Ministry is studying the reduction of taxation rates on the income of individuals and on business profits, while the issue will be discussed at a meeting Finance Minister Mr. Christodoulakis will have with Prime Minister Kostas Simitis The final proposal will be brought forward at the session of the government committee on Thursday.

    [02] Talks on social security and pensions

    The government is planning to bring up for discussion at the table of the talks with trade unionists the Swedish social security model. The governments plans retirement at the age of 55 and 65, retirement after 37 years of social security contributions regardless of age and the establishment of a capitalizing and fully retributive system.

    [03] Interview of George Papandreou

    In an interview with the Athens daily newspaper "Ta Nea" on all matters, Foreign Minister George Papandreou referred apart from the Greek - Turkish relations, Cyprus' entry in the EU, to the issue of succession in the leadership of the ruling PASOK party as well. "If a question on the leadership is raised in the ruling party, then we shall see", Mr. Papandreou said.

    [04] IOC President - 2004 Olympic Games

    The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge, stated to the newspaper "Guardian" that he is convinced that Athens will organize perfectly the 2004 Olympic Games. Meanwhile, government cadres yesterday stressed that the course of the organization of the 2004 Olympics and the construction of the relative works proceed normally.

    [05] PM Simitis visits Slovakia

    Prime Minister Kostas Simitis is on a two-day official visit to Slovakia as of today. American offices closed for Veteran's Day The American embassy, the Consulate and all the public American office in Athens will remain closed today, as the US is celebrating its National holiday, Veterans Day.
