    [01] Meeting of Greek and Albanian Foreign Ministers

    Greek-Albanian bilateral relations and the Balkan summit in Skopyie were the main issues discussed during yesterday's meeting between , Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou and his Albanian counterpart Pascal Milo.

    As both men underlined, relations between the two countries were on a good course to safeguard stability in the region.

    Besides, commenting on articles of the Athens Press related to the name FYROM would adopt, Foreign ministry spokesman Panayotis Beglitis said that both sides had the political will to solve the issue.

    [02] South Korean IOC official said the 2004 Olympic Games will be held n Athens

    South Korean, Kim Oun Yong, senior member of the International Olympic Committee belied statements by South Korea' s officials about the possibility of holding the 2004 Olympic Games in Seoul instead of Athens.

    Mr. Yong said that the hypothesis that Seoul could host the 2004 Olympics was groundless, adding that the International Olympic Committee has made it clear that Athens would be the host of the 2004 Olympic Games.

    [03] EU scientists in Greece to inspect measures to combat the mad cow disease

    A group of scientists from the European Union visited Greece to inspect if the Greek government has taken all measures to check animals for the mad cow disease.

    Following five- day checks, the group of scientists will prepare a report with the conclusions of the inspection.

    According to information the scientists did not note any problems in the labs and no case of mad cow disease in Greece.

    [04] Archbishop of America in Konstantinopolis

    The Archbishop of America, Demetrios, head of the American Archibishopry delegation is in Konstantinopolis to discuss with the Ecumenic Patriarchate Synod, the issue of revision of the American Bishopry constitution.

    Special weight on procedures for the revision of the American Bishopry Constitution was placed after the enthronement of Archibishop Dimitrios. The revision is aimed to upgrade the way of operation of the American Archibishopry administration.

    [05] Liberation of the electric power market in Greece

    The gradual liberation of the electric power market opens a new page in Greece's electric power market. The Minister for Development Nikos Christodoulakis stressed that the liberation of the electric power market would attract new investors and create new job positions.

    At the first stage private companies will produce and supply electric power to businesses which represent 33% of the market while as from the year 2005 all Greek households will have the right to select their electric power supplier.

    [06] The GCGW and ADEDY agree on reduction of benefits

    The study of the two major unions in Greece, the General Confederation of Greek Workers and the Board of the Civil Servants Union will be released today, while the dialogue with the social bodies will take place after March 15.

    According to information, the two unions are in favour of a reduction of benefits while they ask the government to undertake their financial obligations to their Funds.

    [07] Meeting of Education Minister and professors of Technological Institutes

    The meeting between the Education Minister Petros Efthimiou and professors of Technological Institutes on the upgrading of Technological Institutes was held yesterday in a positive climate.

    The two sides agreed on several aspects of the new bill, however there was disagreement on issues related to post- graduate studies and further training of the teaching personnel.

    [08] Euro fighter will be fully assembled in Greece

    National Defence Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos stated yesterday that the "Euro fighter" will be fully assembled in Greece, adding that negotiations for the purchase of that type of jet fighter by the Greek Air Force were at their final stage.

    [09] Pasok Executive Office met yesterday

    The course of the ruling Pasok party towards the 2002 prefectural and municipal elections was the man subject discussed at yesterday's meeting of the party's Executive Office, chaired by Prime-minister Kostas Simitis.

    The Pasok party aims at the broadest possible co operations and coalitions stressed the Secretary of the Pasok party Central Committee Kostas Skandalidis.

    [10] Kostas Karamanlis open to changes in his party

    In an interview with the newspaper "Eleftherotipia , the President of the ND party Kostas Karamanlis appeared open to changes in his party except for a change of its title and agreed on the return of Giorgos Suflias. He sees Mr Avramopoulos party with little chances of success while he described Dora Bakoyianni as very important member of his party.

    In parallel he dened any agreement with Mrs. Bakoyianni which opens the way for her leadership of the party Mr Karamanlis also attacked corruption without naming specific persons and expressed the view that the amendment of the constitution should be deeper.

    [11] Policies to combat unemployment and social exclusion

    Addressing a conference entitled " A society of prosperity and social cohesion" organised by the ND party Eurodeputies, the president of the main opposition ND party, Kostas Karamanlis stressed the need for the formulation of policies to combat unemployment and social exclusion.

    Also attending the conference was Labour Minister, Tasos Yianitsis, who in his speech stressed that the government has placed priority on the issues of stability, unemployment and social cohesion.

    [12] Police manhunt to locate prison escapee Passaris

    A massive police hunt for 26 year-old prison escapee Kostas Passaris is still underway, in the wake of Friday' s shoot-out at the Athens General Hospital, resulting in the death of 2 police officers and the serious injury of a prison employee.

    Road-blocks have been set up at numerous points in Attica and dozens of people have been interrogated. Authorities believe that Passaris had organised the well planned escape while still an inmate at Korydalos, in cooperation with accomplices both inside and outside the jail.

    In the meantime, Justice Minster Mihalis Stathopoulos yesterday announced in parliament the hiring of 1.150 prison employees within 2001.

    [13] Stock market

    The General Share Price Index of the Athens Stock Exchange went slightly up yesterday by 0,59% closing at 3.240,53 points.

    [14] Meeting to examine reduction of cost for the interbalcan oil pipe-line

    During their 3-day meeting in Sofia , Greece , Bulgaria and Russia are seeking ways to reduce the cost -amounting to 720 million ecu - for the construction of the interbalcan oil pipe-line.

    [15] Weather forecast

    A mainly fne day for Attca with moderate north winds abating later. Temperatures will range from 4-10 degrees Celsius.

    Scattered cloud ,increasing later, is expected in Thessaloniki, where temperatures will range from zero to 7 degrees Celcius.
