  • [01] FinMin Tsakalotos: Safe economic climate necessary for recovery of Greek economy

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos presented the position of the Greek side on the debt relief during his meeting on Monday with his Bavarian counterpart Dr. Markus Söder underlining that the finding of the best possible solution will result into the establisment of a safe economic environment which is necessary for the recovery of the Greek economy.

Moreover, Tsakalotos briefed the German minister on the course of the Greek programme and on the next step towards meeting a comprehensive agreement.

On his part, Dr. Söder said that the German part recognises the progress achieved by the Greek government.

Concluding, Tsakalotos underlined that the time has come for Europe to seriously consider the participation of the people of labour in the economic development. He noted that if the European citizens feel that they have only a share in austerity and not in recovery, this may strengthen politically the centrifugal forces.

[02] Upgrading of EuroAsia Interconnector means the upgrading of Greece's strategic role in the region, says Digital Minister

Greece's prospect for the future passes through the development of its geostrategic role and the country's upgrading into a commercial, transport and telecommunications hub for the wider region, Digital Policy Minister Nikos Pappas told the Athens Macedonian News Agency on Monday.

Pappas, who is paying an official visit to Israel, underlined that the EuroAsia Interconnector which will link Greece with Cyprus and Israel is "a project of global geopolitical importance which constitutes another extraordinary opportunity for Greece."

The prospect of upgrading the EuroAsia Interconnector from sole energy to energy and telecommunications with the addition of an optic fibre means the upgrading of Greece's strategic role in the wider region, he added.

[03] Greek wine exports to Canada up 66 pct since 2010

Greek wine exports to Canada is up 66 pct since 2010 and are up 7.5 pct so far this year, a trend expected to grow further, the Greek embassy's economic and trade affairs bureau said in a report, released on the occassion of a wine promotion program in Montreal, Toronto (Canada) and New York, Chicago and Houston (USA). A total of 41 Greek wineries with at least three wine labels each, participated in the program in North America. Visitors tasted more than 120 Greek wines during events held in Montreal and Toronto, with most of these wines already available to the domestic market while others are seeking local representative and distributor. John Szabo, the top Canadian Master Sommelier, a Greek-wine lover, offered a wine tasting seminar during events organized for professional visitors. The embassy report called for the need for coordination and intensifying of efforts to promote quality food and alcohol to Canada after the introduction of a new Canada-EU trade agreement (CETA). The embassy called for a specific and long-term action to promote Greek wine and food to Canada.

[04] Our vision is to open safe routes for the refugees, says Migration Min Mouzalas

Our vision is to open safe routes for the refugees in order to offer 'life' to the 'aged' Europe and succeed a heavy strike against the human traffickers. The refugees' tranfer to Europe could be carried out by airplane from Turkey, Jordan or Lebanon," Mouzalas said.
