  • [01] PM Tsipras: Cooperation of civilizations against darkness of utmost importance

The "Forum of Ancient Civilizations" is an important initiative which starts from Greece with the participation of civilizations that have left their mark in history, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday said at Zappeion Mansion.

"Our pride unites us as well as the responsibility of a great cultural heritage that does not exclusively belong to us any more but is the heritage of the whole mankind," the prime minister said.

It is our responsibility to make use of our past for the benefit of the new generations, Tsipras noted and added: Due to its history, Greece is obliged to identify its presence with dialogue.

"It is of the utmost importance today that civilizations co-operate against the darkness of those who want to sink humanity into hatred," the Prime Minister stressed.

[02] Institutions return to Athens on Monday, EU Commission spox Schinas says

BRUSSELS (ANA/ Ch.Vassilaki) - European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas announced the return of the institutions to Athens on Monday.

During a press briefing, he said that the institutions will return on Monday with the view to concluding the second programme review as soon as possible. The negotiations will start on Tuesday and will last several days, Schinas noted.

Regarding the data announced by Eurostat, he said that these correspond to a 4.2 pct of GDP primary surplus in 2016. "This figure exceeds significantly the target of the programme for a 0.5 pct of GDP primary surplus in 2016 and 3.5 pct of GDP in 2018. This also confirms the trend that the Commission acknowledged a long time ago," he added.

[03] Train services in the Lianokladi-Tithorea section of the Athens-Thessaloniki resume on Monday

Train services in the Lianokladi-Tithorea section of the Athens-Thessaloniki resumed on Monday.

They were temporarily suspended on Sunday night, after a truck collided with a train earlier in the day.

The lorry violated a guarded level crossing but no injuries were reported after the incident. The 300 passengers of the train were transferred with busses to the station of Tithorea and will continue their journey with a different train.

According to information, the engine of the train involved in the accident has derailed and crews are inspecting the tracks for possible bending caused by the severity of the crash. Rail company TRAINOSE, said passengers scheduled to depart tonight from Athens or Thessaloniki are likely to face many hours of delays until the tracks are restored by the crews.

The tracks at the section where the accident occurred are single-lined and pass through inaccessible mountain areas.
