[03] Greek government drafts Growth Strategy plan

The Greek government is drafting a national strategy plan aimed to reduce unemployment by 10 points by the end of 2020.

The Growth Strategy, presented during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the Maximos Mansion on Sunday, envisages a change in the productive model in the country and exploiting all comparable advantages of the Greek economy with the aim to strengthen growth and boost employment.

Government sources said that the meeting focused on drafting a strategic plan for the productive reconstruction of the economy and achieving a goal for a fair growth. The 30-page Growth Strategy report will be presented to the institutions, all productive agencies and local authorities in the country before launching a wide-spread consultation.

The meeting also discussed ways to boost production of quality products in the agricultural sector, exploiting the country's geo-strategic position -a hub in the energy and transport sectors- taking advantage of tourism, exploiting the advantage of geothermal sources and of the country's human capital, particularly in the direction of start-up business and innovation.

The goal is that this national plan to help reduce unemployment by 10 points by the end of 2020. The plan will be specialized on each sector and region. The government will reach a basic framework of recommendations, to be approved by the cabinet, offering the opportunity to the prime minister to begin a round of talks with all interested parties.
