  • [01] Athens City Hall to don colours of German flag for Berlin attack victims

The Athens City Hall on Kotzias Square will be lit with the colours of the German flag - black, red and gold - after 19:00 on Wednesday, in a gesture of symbolic support for Berlin and the victims of the deadly terror attack in one of the German city's Christmas markets.

[02] Newspaper publisher Stavros Psycharis to face criminal charges of tax evasion, money-laundering

A first-instance court public prosecutor on Wednesday pressed criminal charges against newspaper publisher Stavros Psycharis for tax evasion and legalising income from illegal activity, to the amount of 45 million euros.

The charges against Psycharis are based on the findings of an investigation and audit carried out by a Greek centre for the inspection of high-net-worth tax payers (KEFOMEP), investigating his finances from 2000 until the present day. The audit revealed discrepancies in assets and declared income amounting to roughly 45 million euros.

The case file put together following the KEFOMEP investigators' report was forwarded to the public prosecutors' office, where Psycharis was summoned and provided explanations in the form of a written memorandum. The case has now been sent to an examining magistrate.
